On this episode of The Visit, I'm bringing to you three of the interviews I conducted from the @essenceofaboss conference with Selena Hill (@msselenahill), Xiomara Small (@xiosmall), and Vanessa Simmons (@vanessajsimmons).
First, Selena Hill is an award-winning multi-media journalist and digital editor at Black Enterprise. We discussed how technology is revolutionizing women's health.
Xiomara Small is the manager of artists and talent relations at Global Citizen (@glblctzn). In this conversation, the two of us discuss what it means to be a global citizen.
Vanessa Simmons is one of the hardest working women in business. She has a clothing line, she has a footwear brand, she has a skin care line, and she's a mother. She is also the daughter of Hip Hop legend Rev. Run of Run DMC, and the niece of Russell Simmons.

Stereotypes of women are widespread in media and society. It's hard to believe but in 2018, there are still television shows that portray women negatively, with continued remarks about the appearance of women in the public eye. I’m excited to welcome two guests with established careers in television, who certainly have a lot to say about their experiences as women in media. Sukanya Krishnan is an Emmy Award winning morning news anchor on Good Day Wake Up on Fox TV in New York City. She previously anchored for the PIX Morning News on WPIX in NY.
Also with us is Nicole Johnson, another Emmy Award winning journalist at PIX 11 in New York. They both have covered many high profile stories including September 11th.

Episode 15: "Gun Violence and Lives Shattered…Where do we go from here?"
In 2003, I lost one of my youngest sisters to gun violence. My sister was killed 3 weeks after her 19th birthday. It was an incredible blow that my family and I endured. Our community and country must start implementing solutions now to help those grieving and to save lives.
Joining us for episode 15 of The Visit™, "Gun Violence and Lives Shattered…Where do we go from here?", are two very special guests. Tamika Mallory’s son’s father was fatally shot almost 16 years ago, and this loss led her to become the integral voice for civil rights. She is a Civil Rights leader, anti-violence advocate, entrepreneur and one of the masterminds behind such historic events: The Women’s March on Washington, Gun Violence Awareness Month Initiative and NYC’s Crisis Management System targeting gun violence prevention.
Mysonne “The N.Y. General” is an independent, Bronx-based MC. On 10/11/2017, Mysonne did a powerful freestyle at the BET Awards Hip Hop Cypher. Besides his introspective style and brutally honest lyrics, he has been known to be one of the most outspoken voices against gun violence and police brutality. After spending seven years in prison, he has proven that struggles can make us stronger.

With the tragic deaths of young men like Kalief Browder and calls for the reform of the criminal justice system, we discussed Mental Health in the Prison System with community activist and entrepreneur, Shabaka Shakur, who was wrongfully imprisoned for a crime he did not commit, as well as Dr. Brickell Quarles, Clinical Psychologist, Rikers Island & Founder, urbanLEAP. Shakur shares his experience of keeping his mental health intact while fighting for his freedom. Dr. Quarles provides advice for formerly incarcerated individuals, and affected families.
